SAN DIEGO - Just hours before last Friday's season-opening victory over Long Beach State, SDSU Hockey Club (@sdsuhockey) forwards Anthony Mata and Cameron Davis joined with team consultant Anthony Baldini (@Baldini1) in volunteering at the Scripps Clinic Invitational Golf Tournament. The annual event, now in its 45th year, is a major fundraiser for Scripps Health (@scrippshealth). This year's tournament was held at the prestigious Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif.
Mata, Davis and Baldini assisted Scripps Health staff members and a team of other volunteers with moving boxes, transporting golfers and their clubs, and lending a hand wherever needed.
"It was a great time," Davis said after four hours of manual labor. "I'm glad we came out here and helped make this event possible."
This year's fundraiser benefited the John R. Anderson V Medical Pavilion, the newest addition to the Scripps Clinic family. The state-of-the-art, 175,000-square-foot multispecialty facility will offer a broad range of advanced treatment and care in the areas of cardiology, integrative cardiology, diabetes/endocrinology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonary and critical care medicine among others.
"We're happy to be able to contribute to a top-notch medical center," Baldini said. "Any time a San Diego business needs our help our doors are open. This team has a great group of guys that want to make a difference in the community. The fact that they're out here the morning of a game really says a lot about their character."
